Vintage Tsuzure-ori Silk Nagoya Obi with Kingfisher and Flowing Water Design, Early 1970s

This Nagoya obi from the early 1970s features a kingfisher in flight above a flowing river, rendered in the tsuzure-ori (tapestry weave) technique.

Tsuzure-ori is an artistic hand-weaving technique regarded as the highest expression of plain weave, in which the warp threads are concealed and the weft threads are carefully packed into place using the artisan’s fingernails.

Obi Nagoya en soie tsuzure-ori, martin-pêcheur et motif d’eau fluide, début des années 1970

Ce Nagoya obi du début des années 1970 représente un martin-pêcheur en vol au-dessus d’un cours d’eau, réalisé selon la technique du tsuzure-ori (tissage en tapisserie).

Le tsuzure-ori est une technique de tissage manuel artistique, considérée comme la forme la plus aboutie du tissage en armure toile, dans laquelle les fils de chaîne sont dissimulés et les fils de trame sont soigneusement tassés à l’aide des ongles de l’artisan.
