Nishijin Silk Nagoya Obi with Chrysanthemum Blossoms and Leaves on a Vermilion Ground

This refined Nagoya obi is woven in Nishijin, Kyoto, the historic center of Japan’s most prestigious textile production.
The design features chrysanthemum blossoms and leaves, a symbol of elegance and longevity, rendered in softly contrasting tones against a vivid vermilion ground.

The pattern is created using a weft-faced brocade technique (nishiki-ori), where colored weft threads are carefully inserted to form the motifs, producing a subtle relief and refined texture.

It is a quietly refined obi, embodying the understated elegance characteristic of Kyoto.

* A Nagoya obi is partially sewn for ease of tying. By carefully undoing the stitching, it can be transformed into a rectangular textile and enjoyed as an interior piece, such as a wall tapestry.
