Plain Tsumugi Silk Haori with Butterfly Lining, 

1960s–1970s

This haori was made in the 1960s–1970s using plain tsumugi silk woven from pre-dyed threads.

The surface shows the subtle irregular texture characteristic of tsumugi silk, creating gentle variations in tone depending on the light.

While the exterior appears elegantly plain, traditional Japanese haori often conceal a playful or artistic element inside.
In this piece, the lining is decorated with softly colored butterfly motifs.

Although usually hidden while worn, the lining becomes visible when the garment moves or when it is taken off, reflecting the Japanese aesthetic of understated elegance and quiet surprise.

What is a Haori?

Originally designed for warmth, it is now also appreciated as a stylish outer layer that adds character to a kimono ensemble without covering the obi.

Neither overly formal nor too casual, the haori is suitable for a wide range of occasions, from everyday wear to elegant outings.

Ce haori a été réalisé dans les années 1960–1970 en soie tsumugi unie, tissée à partir de fils préalablement teints.

La surface présente la texture subtile et légèrement irrégulière caractéristique du tsumugi, créant de délicates variations de lumière selon l’angle de vue.

L’extérieur est volontairement sobre et uni.
Dans la tradition japonaise, les haori expriment souvent une élégance discrète à l’extérieur tout en révélant un motif plus libre à l’intérieur.

Ici, la doublure est ornée de papillons dans des tons doux.
Ce décor reste généralement caché lorsque le vêtement est porté, mais apparaît au mouvement ou lorsque le haori est retiré, illustrant l’esthétique japonaise de la beauté subtile et de la surprise discrète.

無地紬羽織 ― 蝶文様の羽裏

1960〜1970年代　

当時の躾糸が付いたままの未着

この羽織は1960〜1970年代頃に作られた先染めの無地紬の羽織です。
紬特有の自然な質感により、表面にはわずかな揺らぎのような陰影が生まれ、光の加減によって豊かな表情を見せます。

外側は一見すると端正な無地ですが、日本の羽織には「表は控えめに、内側に遊び心を込める」という美意識があります。
この羽織の羽裏には、やわらかな色調で蝶文様が染められています。

着用時にはほとんど見えませんが、脱いだときや袖の動きによってさりげなく現れる意匠で、日本の装いに見られる奥ゆかしい美意識を表しています。

胴裏には、花や蝶が描かれています。
